β οΈ KEEP SAFE IN THE HEAT βοΈπ‘οΈ
With temperatures soaring across England today and us reaching the peak of the current heatwave, we are reminding everyone to take extra care in the hot weather and around open water. High temperatures can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and water-related incidents.
β Stay Safe in the Heat
π§ Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
π Keep your home cool by closing curtains and blinds in direct sunlight.
βοΈ Avoid prolonged periods in the sun, especially during the hottest part of the day.
π§’ Wear light-coloured clothing, a hat and suitable sun protection.
πΆπ΅ Check on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours, particularly older people, young children and those with existing health conditions.
π Never leave children, vulnerable adults or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short time.
π Ensure pets have access to fresh water and shade, and avoid walking dogs during the hottest part of the day.
π Water Safety Many people will be looking to cool off in rivers, lakes and other open water. Whilst it may look inviting, open water can be extremely dangerous.
β οΈ Be aware of: π¨ If someone gets into difficulty in the water: π₯ Fire Risk The hot, dry conditions also increase the risk of grass and wildfires. Please dispose of cigarettes responsibly and avoid using disposable barbecues near grassland, woodland or open countryside. Current weather warnings highlight an increased risk of wildfire during this period of extreme heat.
Let's all enjoy the weather safely by looking after ourselves, our families and our communities. | ||
